Haryana to have more HPSC members
Chandigarh: The Haryana Government on Thursday decided to increase the number of members of the Haryana Public Service Commission from the existing eight to twelve in addition to its chairman to ensure “smooth working of the Commission”.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Haryana Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
A few months ago the State Government had sought impeachment of the Public Service Commission members appointed by the previous Om Prakash Chautala regime in the wake of alleged irregularities in selection of Haryana Civil Service and other allied services officers.
Since the State could not remove the HPSC members, their case had been referred to the President for impeachment, a decision on which is awaited. Less than three months before Haryana Assembly elections in February 2005, the then government headed by Mr. Chautala had administered the oath to HPSC’s present chairman M.S. Saini. - PTI
