Schools’ plea on English adjourned
Staff Reporter
They want to withdraw the undertaking given to the Education Department
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court has adjourned to August 18, a batch of petitions by primary schools challenging the State policy on medium of instruction.
The schools had sought the permission of the court to withdraw the undertaking they had given to the Education Department at the time of starting the institutions. The schools had promised to abide by the State policy on medium of instruction and promised to teach in Kannada.
They said they were forced to teach in Kannada as the State had insisted that they fall in line with the policy. With the Full Bench of the High Court on July 2, 2008 quashing the State policy on medium of instruction, the schools said they are no longer bound to adhere to the undertaking they had given at the time of starting the institution.
When the matter came up, the State submitted to the court that its Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed against the Full Bench judgment is likely to come up for hearing on August 18.
Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh adjourned hearing of more than 40 petitions to August 18.
