Left seeks immediate Parliament session
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India, the All India Forward Bloc and the Revolutionary Socialist Party on Thursday demanded an immediate Parliament session to attend to major issues. In a statement, the four parties said the Manmohan Singh-led government was afraid of facing Parliament. “Earlier, on July 8, the government announced that the monsoon session will be held from August 11 to September 5, apart from the two-day special session for the trust vote,” it said.
Allegation
The Left parties, which withdrew support to the United Progressive Alliance government last month, alleged that efforts were on to do away with the monsoon session altogether. “The reason is clear. After having manipulated a majority by foul means, the government is not confident of facing Parliament where its majority will be in question,” they claimed.
In their view, the Prime Minister and the Congress leadership “want to avoid Parliament till the Nuclear Suppliers Group process is over.”
They claimed that the failure to maintain majority in Parliament before that would jeopardise the nuclear deal with the U.S.
