Students’ environmental congress from August 19

Platform to share experiences on conservation

Mock Parliament to be held with 550 participants

HYDERABAD: Educating students ingeniously on environment and conservation, the AP National Green Corps (APNGC) will be conducting a NGC Students Environmental Congress between August 17 and 19.

The Congress is aimed at serving as a platform for students to share experiences and exchange information on projects relating to environmental conservation in their locality.

Students of Std. VIII have been divided into five groups; each group representing a set of community-related problems like water problems, waste management, energy conservation, plantation and efficient use of school land.

Students are encouraged to conduct surveys of their neighbourhood and the teacher in-charge (Green Teacher) would collate the findings and send them on to the directorate.

Teachers too were trained in imparting environmental education through a two-day workshop, which included ‘e-education’ too.

All participating schools are given a unique school Id when they register on the NGC website apart from district level e-newsletters.

Five students representing the five groups from 50 schools in the 110 divisions spread across the State would present their projects at the Divisional-level Environmental Congress that has already begun.

Students would be judged by the other participants and the person with the highest mark would then be sent to represent their division in the State-level Environmental Congress to be held this month.

“Project evaluation is done by the participants to promote lateral learning,” said W.G. Prasanna Kumar, Director, APNGC.

As part of the Congress, a mock Parliament would be held with 550 participants. AP stands first in imparting environmental education, followed by Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
