Going green: Children of Ryan International School, Kundalahalli doing their bit. BANGALORE: The third edition of the football tournament for the Ryan Rolling Trophy began on Thursday. Prashanth Fernandez, principal of Ryan International School, Kundalahalli, declared the tournament open by releasing balloons in the air, along with the guests. The first match was played between the host school and Inventure Academy. Ryan International School won the match 6-0. Kim Sung Jin, who scored four goals, was declared the man of the match. In all, 28 teams are participating in the 5-a-side tournament. Recently, the school observed ‘Environment Week’ by involving the students in many activities such as planting of saplings in the city’s populous localities, cleaning the important yet unhygienic areas such as the railway station, recycling of waste materials and staging an eye-opener play on the theme, to arouse awareness towards the environment in young minds. Students were motivated to participate in all the activities and they competed with each other at inter and intra-class levels. A group of students, along with the principal, headed for the railway station and other important places on a cleanliness drive. Another group planted saplings of roses, jasmine and hibiscus. Planting saplingsInteract Club members of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Nagarjuna Vidyaniketan, Yelahanka, participated in a sapling plantation drive. As part of the “Project Green Karnataka” programme, organised by the Rotary Club, members planted saplings at the All India Radio Super Power Transmitter campus recently. Actor and environmentalist Suresh Heblikar encouraged the members to work towards a greener Karnataka. Earlier, the office-bearers of the club were installed by Rotarian Bharat, president of Rotary Club, Yelahanka. Investiture ceremonyAt the investiture ceremony of Sudarshan Vidya Mandir (ICSE), Jayanagar, leaders took an oath to discharge their duties with conviction. The oath-taking was initiated by the school captain Arjun, who highlighted the importance of team work to win laurels for the institution. The other office-bearers also stressed on the need for hard work and enthusiastic participation for the all-round development of a student. THE HINDU NIE TEAM
