KOCHI: Finishing schools that impart soft skills are getting more popular in the information technology sector. These schools are intended to help the individual perform better at the workplace. The assimilation of new traits could go a long way in improving the interactive patterns. Though such aspects may seem insignificant, the impact could be really impressive. Perhaps lessons in modern behavioural science are much more relevant to children and adolescents than adults. Courses designed to improve the children’s mental agility and memory apart from boosting self-confidence could be of immense help to the ‘gen-next’. The Kerala Child Welfare Society is planning to organise such courses in all districts of the State, in association with interested organisations in the private sector. As part of the programme, short-duration courses are to be conducted at schools. Techniques to improve memory will also be taught at such courses, according to Shibu, an official associated with the project. The development comes in the wake of the awareness that several students from Kerala fail to make the mark in the interviews though they perform well in the written examinations. The high rate of literacy should get translated into human resources that could reap good results and rewards in a world marked by intense competition. The courses are designed to take a step in the right direction to achieve the objective, according to the project managers. A soft skills institute in Ernakulam is coordinating the efforts in the district.
