Kidnapped teenager rescued

He was abducted from outside his home over a month back

NEW DELHI: A 14-year-old boy has been rescued over a month after he was kidnapped from outside his home in Dabri here. Three persons have been arrested.

Ombir Singh of Sadh Nagar lodged a complaint with the local police on June 30 that his son Hemant had gone missing a day ago.

Ransom call

A few days after a case of kidnapping was registered, the complainant received a ransom call on his cell phone demanding Rs.30 lakh for safe release of the teenager. The caller asked Ombir to arrange the money within a day.

Taking up investigation, Sub-Inspector Surinder Chahal of the Manglapuri police post traced the ransom call to a public telephone booth in Aligarh and kept a police team stationed there for three days. On July 8, the kidnappers made another call from Etah in Uttar Pradesh and the police team reached there and arrested Biresh Sharma from his native village.

At Biresh’s instance, the police arrested his accomplice Bhure who purportedly told them that the boy had been kept in Kakrala village in Etah. The police mounted a raid, but the accused managed to flee with the boy. However, their accomplice Surjit Sharma was arrested.

A trap was then laid and the alleged mastermind Chandershekhar was asked to come to Anand Vihar bus stand on August 2 to collect the ransom money. On reaching the bus stand, Chandershekhar asked the boy to get down from the front door of the bus and he himself disappeared after getting off the rear door.

No job

“Chandershekhar, the prime accused, was without a job for the past several months and thus hatched the conspiracy to kidnap the boy along with his brother Biresh, brother-in-law Pinto and property dealer Surjit. The accused kidnapped the boy on June 29 and kept him confined in a house of one Virender Singh with the help of their accomplice Bhure, Dinesh and Vasanta,” said Sub-Inspector Surinder Chahal.
