Mad rush for flats leaves many injured
Staff Reporter
Security guards have a tough time controlling crowds at Azadpur counter
NEW DELHI: Several people, including some women, were injured during sale of application forms for allotment of low-cost houses under the Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojana at Azadpur here on Thursday.
People reached early
People had started trickling in hours before the scheduled opening of the sale counters at 10 a.m. When the counters opened, all hell broke loose as people pushed and jostled to acquire the form.
Private and police security guards had a tough time controlling the crowds. A woman was seen bleeding after a lathi blow landed on her head. In the commotion, some slipped on the wet ground and sustained injuries.
Under the Delhi Government scheme, flats would be allotted to residents of jhuggi jhonpri clusters and urban poor and priority would be given to those who have been or are being displaced due to projects related to the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
54 counters across city
The forms are being sold through 54 centres set up across Delhi till August 14.
