Maoists to return seized properties

Prerana Marasini

KATHMANDU: Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) chairman Prachanda on Wednesday directed the party cadre to return seized land and properties, and dissolve the Young Communist League, the party’s youth wing.

Political parties had been pressing the Maoists to return confiscated properties. The Nepali Congress (NC) had listed this issue in its seven-point conditions to join the government.

The Maoists, on the other hand, have blamed the government of not providing allowances to their Army - People’s Liberation Army (PLA) - in cantonments. Mr. Prachanda has expressed happiness with the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction’s decision to allowances to PLA members.
