Murder accused held

KOCHI: The crime squad of Kalamassery police, led by circle inspector N.R. Jayaraj, arrested the accused in a murder case from the premises of the Kochi Cooperative Medical College Hospital here on Wednesday night.

The accused was Udayan, 32, of Koonanthai, Kalamassery.The case was that the accused stabbed to death Kumar, 28, of Kaloor, at a toddy shop in Kakkanad on Tuesday.

He has been absconding since then. Police recovered the knife used for the murder from the house of a friend of the accused.

Police said the accused and victim were partners in selling ganja and an argument over this led to the incident.

Police said that the accused was out on bail in two robbery cases registered by the Kalamassery police and a case registered under Arms Act by the Thrikkakkara police.

He was produced before the Aluva chief judicial magistrate court I and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
