Youths attack college, four held

HYDERABAD: A group of youths, claiming to be members of a student organisation, barged into a private college for women at Chaderghat and damaged the college property on Thursday.

Four of the attackers were arrested by the police. A criminal case was registered against them and a hunt was launching for the remaining accused.

The youths barged into Vani Junior and Degree College for women urging the students to boycott classes in connection with the recent ‘suicide’ of a student of Osmania University College of engineering.

The agitators picked up an argument with the college principal and broke the window panes of the building. Alerted by the college staff, the Chaderghat police rushed there and caught four of the attackers.

Harassment

Meanwhile, the students of the college staged a demonstration alleging that the college management was not allowing students of a particular community to offer prayers on college premises and harassing them. The demonstration was called off after senior police officers intervened and assured to speak to the college management about the issue.
