KATHMANDU: The deadline set by President Ram Baran Yadav for the formation of a government expires on Friday. However, the parties have not yet resolved many issues. On Thursday, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (UML) and Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) held a meeting to resolve the power-sharing issues; the Maoists’ commitment to give up their Army and weapons, and return seized properties; and drafting of a Common Minimum Programme. After the meeting, Maoist chairman Prachanda said the UML and MJF would support the Maoist-led government. The NC, on the other hand, would extend support only when all issues are addressed in a package, he said. NC leader Ram Chandra Paudel said the Maoists need to ensure an environment of trust to form government.
