SAVIOUR SCHEME: Deputy Director of Health Services, Thanjavur, Chandramohan, (second left) hands over heart surgery assistance to a family at PSG Hospitals in Coimbatore. COIMBATORE: Four children from Thanjavur will undergo surgery at the PSG Hospitals here shortly to correct congenital heart defects under the State Government’s Ilam Siruvar Irudhaya Padhugappu Thittam. A press release from the hospital said two other children had undergone surgery and were doing well. Totally, 18 children had been identified for surgery to correct problems such as Atrial Septal Defect, Ventricular Septal Defect or Tetralogy of Fallot. Children up to 12 years could undergo surgery under this scheme, with the funds being provided by the State Government. If a Government Hospital in a particular area did not have a heart surgery facility, the patients will be referred to a private hospital with which the State Government will have entered into a tie-up for the surgery. The annual income of the child’s family should not be more than Rs.50,000. P. Ranjani, M. Veerapandi, H. Sanjay and A. Praveen Kumar will undergo surgery at the PSG Hospital that had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Director of Medical and Rural Health Services. R. Amudha and P. Suresh, two other beneficiaries, had undergone balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty and atrial septal defect closure surgery respectively. The hospital said it had already performed surgeries for 21 children from Dindigul District under this scheme. At a recent function at the PSG Hospital, Deputy Director of Health Services, Thanjavur, Chandramohan and hospital Medical Director Vimal Kumar Govindan gave away surgery funds (in the form of cheques) to the parents of the children.
