Create a special team to tackle terrorism

Kerala is forced to step up vigil in view of terror threats. The security measures include evacuation of people from beaches and parks, cancellation of film shows, vehicle checks and so on. Do these steps provide a sense of security to the common man? Our readers respond:

Cooperation needed

With out the cooperation of local people, it is impossible to flush out terrorists. Government should appeal to people that if they find anyone in their locality who is unfamiliar, they should inform the police. Generally people are not bothered about others including their neighbours.

We also need special laws like POTA because ordinary laws are not only time-consuming but also full of loopholes. Also the government has to recruit educated and energetic youngsters to special task force to tackle terrorism.

Spreading to the South

Terrorism has started spreading its tentacles into the southern states including Kerala. Lopsided progress, growing economic disparity, neglect of welfare measures, religious bigotry, caste considerations, political clout, corruption are the reasons for this. Unless steps are taken to do way with such social malignancies, it is impossible to uproot terrorism.

Susceptible to attacks

Kerala, a densely populated state in India, makes itself susceptible to terrorist attacks. Beaches, Parks and Film theatres are always thronged with people. These places are easily accessible for terrorists too. Evacuation of people from these places when terrorists are on their prowl helps to reduce the causalities in case of a blast. It also helps the bomb squad to ferret out the hidden bombs in these areas. Kavitha P.

Special team

Kerala is better than any other states in the country in the matter of terrorism. In almost all the State, we heard about terrorist attacks and bomb blasts. But recently, Kochi and Wayanad in the State also were targeted by the terrorists by an anonymous call from our neighbouring enemy country. Why not we constitute an Emergency group to handle such occasions?

Bomb threats

Just after the serial bomb blast there at Bangalore, Kerala was at the peak point of threat. The bomb blast that panicked and rattled the routine lives of the bustling and busy city of Bangalore might be the reason that made people of Kerala too, in a state of panic.

Form a special team

Kerala recently reportedly received bomb threat by some Pakistani groups. At the same time, as Bangalore and Ahmedabad incidents were in the minds of the people, railway stations, transport bus stands, airports and museum were searched. The police and local authorities should continue the search and the people should be alerted always against such terrorist attacks. This may be a mock drill by these terrorist groups. Some days passed, they may strike again. Why not we form a special protection group for this purpose?

Amend laws

It is high time to form a force to face any terrorist attack. Only in Punjab and Kashmir, we heard such occasions the terror attacks to common people. Last week, the people of the State, especially people in Kochi, feared to travel in vehicles and assemble in the towns. The fire force, police force or any other force of the State is not enough to face such a situation. The law of the land has to be amended, so as to punish the terrorists maximum.

Praiseworthy effort

Some people in Kerala are exploiting the critical situation by making anonymous calls of bombs being placed at some place or other. They take it as child’s play. By making fake calls they never think how such a big problem is created for the police and the public. Sandra V.

Remain vigilant

First in Gujarat, then at Banglore and finally Kerala was also under the threat of a bomb blast. Security measures shouldn’t be the after effect of a threat. Every state should have their own security measures to protect their masses within. But in a state like Kerala where violence is the point-blank answer to any protest, security measures might not succeed to the extent they demand to.
