PUDUCHERRY: The National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) has urged the government to take steps to control rash driving by some bus drivers to prevent accidents. The federation’s State Secretary B. Sarala in a statement said that there were frequent accidents at Ariyankupppam, involving buses plying from Puducherry to Cuddalore. The buses stopped opposite Madha Koil and at the entrance to Government Middle School here to pick up commuters. The buses should be prevented from stopping in such areas as there was heavy movement of students and pedestrians, which could lead to accidents. Similarly, there were frequent accidents at Nanalmeedu junction on Thavalakuppam-Cuddalore Highway. Barricades should be erected to control the speed of vehicles, she said. The Federation requested the department to regulate the movement of buses at various points including the Puducherry to Cuddalore route, Puducherry to Villupuram route and Puducherry to Kanagachettikulam route to prevent accidents.
