A compensation of Rs.1 lakh to the family of the dead and Rs.25,000 to the injured announced CHANDIGARH: Haryana Minister of State for Tourism Kiran Choudhry on Friday directed the Bhiwani district authorities to speed up draining of flood waters from the district town. She said she had requested Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to ensure that the authorities made adequate arrangements of de-watering instruments and other relief materials for the flood-affected areas of the district. She expressed grief at the death of Santra Devi and her 15-year-old son, residents of Nursaar Johar, who were killed when the roof of their house collapsed due to heavy rain in Bhiwani on Thursday. She said a compensation of Rs.1 lakh each would be given to the family of the deceased and Rs.25,000 to the injured. The Red Cross would also give Rs.25,000 each to the families of the dead. Ms. Choudhry directed the district officials to make arrangements to shift the residents of water-logged areas to safer places and provide them with relief material. She also directed the Civil Surgeon to ensure that all hospitals and primary health centres are well-equipped with medicines and other facilities to tackle any emergencies. She said special arrangements had been made for the flood-affected villagers of Dinod at the local government School. Bhiwani Deputy Commissioner T.L. Satyaprakash said more than 24 pump-sets were operational under the supervision of officers at Old Housing Board Colony, Adarsh Nagar, Revenue Colony, Sadar Thana, Old Bus Stand, Jalana Chowk, Baghkothi, Vikas Nagar, Shiv Nagar Colony, Liberty Cinema Road, Cantt. Road, Outer Circular Road, Syndicate Mohalla, Bawri Gate, Hanuman Gate, Krishna Colony, Denod Gate, Auto Market, Old Grain Market, Patram Gate, Jain Chowk, Teliwara, Dobi Talab to drain out water from there at the earliest. Also, earth-moving machines and tractors were pressed into service in various flood-affected areas. He said the district administration had sought help from the mechanical division of the Army stationed at Hisar for drainage of flood water in Bhiwani.
