DEHRA DUN: Security has been stepped up around the Indian Military Academy here, railway stations at Roorkee, Hardwar and Laksar and at ashrams and other religious places in Uttarakhand following letters of threat received over the past fortnight. The letters, received by railway officials and several ashrams in the region, threaten to blow up these institutions on or around Independence Day. “Although these letters bearing near similar language seem to be a hoax, we are taking no chances,” said a senior police officer, adding that sniffer dogs had been deployed at Dehra Dun and Hardwar railway stations and bus stands. Vigil has also been stepped up in Haldwani to keep an eye on people going to the Kumaon region. In Dehra Dun, police carried out inspections at many hotels on Thursday night. All vehicles entering or leaving the city at night are being thoroughly checked. The Home Department has also decided to strengthen the anti-terrorist vigil in the State.
