Alappuzha
ALAPPUZHA: Alappuzha’s biggest sporting event will kick off here on Saturday, attracting over one lakh spectators to the shores of Punnamada Lake, and at least five times that to Doordarshan and Amrita TV screens that will broadcast the pulsating affair live. Sixteen snake-boats will be seen tearing through the shining sheets of silvery water in the lake, rowing with all their might to reach the finishing point first and lift the 56-year-old internationally renowned Nehru Trophy. The result will be known after 5.30 p.m.
