Release of Rs.162.77 crore to States, Union Territories approved Foodgrains at BPL rates for beneficiaries NEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Friday approved continuation of the “Nutrition Programme for Adolescent Girls” in 2008-09 in 51 districts on a pilot project basis with minor changes in guidelines. The CCEA approved release of the Central assistance (on a 100 per cent grant basis) of the allocation of Rs.162.77 crore for 2008-09 to States and Union Territories. Under this programme, all undernourished girls, in the age group 11-19, identified by body weight, will be covered, irrespective of the financial status of their families. Foodgrains at the below poverty line rate of Rs. 6 a kg will be provided to the beneficiaries on a monthly basis. Cut-off weightsTo identify the beneficiaries two cut-off weights would be adopted — 30 kg for those below 15 years and 35 kg for those above 15. Regular health check-up and referral services, if required, and nutrition and health education are also provided to the beneficiaries and their families. Act to be amendedThe Cabinet also cleared a proposal for amending Sections 23 and 24 of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Act, 1966, to provide recognition for dental courses, nursing degrees and diplomas.
