Vikram in lead

BANGALORE: Red Rooster Racing’s Vikram Mathias (P.V.S. Murthy) and Amitrajit Ghosh (Ashwin Naik) led the field in the Open category of the K-1000 motor rally, the second event of the Indian National Rally Championship on Friday. Vikram who won the first event at Mysore last month had a slender lead of 29 seconds over teammate Amitrajit after the first leg of Special Stages at Siddalghata (Kolar District).

Winner of last year’s K-1000 rally Gaurav Singh Gill (Team MRF) set a cracking pace and looked like taking control, but a problem with throttle sensor on the third stage put paid to Gill’s plans. He however managed to get his car started and complete the first leg way down the field with no hope of retaining his title.

Team MRF disappoints

It was a disastrous day for Team MRF as Arjun Rao Aroor was hauled off the parc ferme at the flag-off with a battery problem. Lohit Urs also was among the 12 drop-outs for the day with a mechanical problem.

Sanjay Aggarwal and Soham Azra toppled out and Nibu Sayed and G. Prasad went off the road. Lohith had a mechanical problem after completing the stages and was among those who did not finish.

The top results (after the first day): 2000cc: 1. Vikram Mathias / P.V.S. Murthy (Red Rooster Racing) 00:45:47, 2. Amitrajit Ghosh / Ashwin Naik (Red Rooster Racing) 00:46:16, 3.
