‘TDP trying to create rift between State, Governor’

HYDERABAD: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy has accused the Telugu Desam Party of trying to create a rift between the Governor’s office and the government on the fertilizer shortage issue.

At a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Reddy took exception at the manner in which the Governor’s office was dragged into the issue. He ridiculed the TDP’s claim that Governor N. D. Tiwari’s initiative had ensured six rakes of fertilizers for the State. The Minister said it was nothing but undermining the Governor’s office.

“The State government functions under his direction and there is no way, the government would disobey his orders,” he observed.

Mr. Reddy said on receiving a call from the Governor, he had called on him personally to explain the initiative taken by the government to overcome the shortage.

He said Mr. Tiwari informed him about his telephonic talk with Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Ram Vilas Paswan about the shortage.

He pointed out that Mr. Paswan had stated that the Andhra Pradesh government, including Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, were in touch with him on the issue.

He accused the TDP of launching a ‘venomous campaign’ against the government, forcing the farmers to agitate for fertilizers.

Asserting that there were sufficient stocks of fertilizers in the State, Mr. Raghuveera Reddy blamed the TDP for forcing the ryots to take to panic purchase.
