Getting bigger and better

CHENNAI: An increase in prize money and the number of entries will be the highlights of the 76th edition of the Bertram memorial tournaments to be organised by Loyola College from August 16 to 31.

The prize money for basketball, volleyball and ball badminton has been increased to Rs. 4,000 for the winner, 3,000 for the runner-up and 1,500 and 1,000 for the third and fourth places.

The Chairman of the Tournament Committee, Fr. A. Albert Muthumalai, who is also the Principal, explained the details of the event.

As many as 40 colleges and 10 schools will vie for honours.

Among the individual sports, chess has attracted 74 entries.

There are 30 entries for basketball, 20 for ball badminton, 32 for tennis (singles), and 30 for volleyball. — Special Correspondent
