Preparatory course at IIT Punjab
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Surendra Prasad, whose institution is mentoring the new IIT in Punjab, said on Friday that no seats under the quota for the OBCs were lying vacant there. However, there are about 10 seats still up for grabs in the SC/ST categories.
He informed that 10 students would be taken under the one-year preparatory course for IIT Punjab. This course prepares the students from the SC/ST communities to study at IIT. Candidates successfully completing the programme are offered admission to the first year in the next academic year without appearing at the Joint Entrance Examination again. The classes for the preparatory course for IIT Punjab will be held in Delhi, Prof. Prasad said at a press conference.
“Their classes are being held here. We have also set up a temporary hostel for these students on our campus. By next year there is a strong possibility that they will move to the new campus of IIT, Punjab, in Ropar,” he added.
