NEYVELI: The Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) will set up a helpline to render medical assistance to retirees, P. Babu Rao, NLC Director (Personnel), has said.

Mr. Rao said the health insurance scheme was one of the several measures launched by the NLC for the welfare of the retirees. Under the scheme, each of the over 10,000 retirees, in case of admission as in-patient, was eligible to get a financial assistance to the extent of Rs. 2 lakh a year. Besides this, they were also entitled to an annual grant of Rs. 3,500 for buying medicines.

The management would look into the demand of the NLC Retirees’ Welfare Association to enhance the allowance for medicines to Rs. 6,000.

Mr. Rao said it was because of the untiring efforts put in by the erstwhile employees during its formative years that the NLC had attained an impressive growth. Therefore, in recognition of their services, the NLC had taken special care over their welfare.
