High Court team inspects Mundiambakkam tank
Special Correspondent
VILLUPURAM: A three-member team deputed by the Madras High Court inspected the Mundiambakkam tank here on Saturday where a government medical college is slated to come up.
The team comprised government pleader G. Sankaran, Assistant Engineer of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board Murugan and advocate D. Geetha.
District Collector R. Palanisamy and revenue officials accompanied the team.
The court action was following a petition filed by the Lake and Tank Water Resources Protection Movement represented by organisers K. Balamurugan and Prabha Kalvimani and six others.
Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin had laid the foundation for the college on May 19, 2007. The Movement moved the High Court seeking a change in the location, thus sparing the water source.
The High Court issued an interim stay on August 7, 2007. However, on October 9, 2007 the Revenue Department sought to transfer the land to its possession from the Public Works Department.
The Collector will submit a report to the court on the issue on August 12.
