Ashok to hoist National Flag in Hassan

HASSAN: Transport Minister R. Ashok will be unfurling the National Flag on the Independence Day in Hassan instead of the district in-charge Minister, Arvind Limbavali.

Mr. Limbavali will be hoisting the flag in Bagalkot, according to a circular issued by Under Secretary to Government Ramachandra.

Mr. Limbavali is also the district in-charge Minister of Bagalkot. Hassan has not been represented in the B.S. Yeddyurappa Cabinet as there are no Bharatiya Janata Party legislators from the district. Of the seven MLAs from Hassan, five belong to the Janata Dal (Secular) and the others are from the Congress.

However, though the seven legislators from Bagalkot are from the BJP, Mr. Limbavali, who represents Mahadevpura constituency, has been made the district in-charge Minister. Similar is the case in Gadag which returned four BJP MLAs. B. Sriramulu from Bellary is the district in-charge Minister of Gadag.

Despite returning BJP MLAs, district such as Chikmagalur (four BJP MLAs), Mysore (two), Chitradurga (two), Belgaum (nine), Madikeri (two), Koppal (two) and Tumkur (three) have no representation in the Cabinet. BJP MLAs from other districts have been made in-charge ministers of these districts.

The Hassan district administration which had printed invitation cards for the Independence Day programme stating that Mr. Limbavali would hoist the National Flag later corrected it.
