Police told not to adopt casual approach towards trafficking cases

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: H.N. Satyanarayana Rao, Inspector General of Police (Eastern Range), has said that police should not to adopt a casual approach towards human trafficking cases.

Speaking after inaugurating a daylong seminar and workshop on “Trafficking of persons and the role of police”, organised by the district police here on Friday, Mr. Rao said that the police could play a pivotal role in curbing this crime inflicted on people, especially women and children.

According to him, a large number of people all over the world were becoming victims of trafficking for various reasons, including poverty, and were being subjected to various kinds of exploitation.

“Negligence on the part of the police is unwarranted especially after a case of missing person is registered. Put in serious efforts to investigate and trace the missing person, especially if it is a woman or a child,” he said. Mr. Rao lauded Seemant Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, for his initiative in organising the workshop and asked the police officials to make use of it. “You will be doing a yeoman service by preventing human trafficking. Try to learn what you do not know and extend full cooperation with members of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working for the cause,” he said.
