RELIGIOUS FERVOUR: Members of Sikh community participate in a ‘jagriti’ yatra taken out in Bidar city on Saturday.

BIDAR: As part of tri-centenary celebrations of “Gurtha Gaddi” of Guru Granth Saheb in Nanded, Maharashtra, a “jagriti yatra” (religious procession) of the Sikh community entered Bidar city on Friday night, and a procession was taken out on main roads of the city on Saturday.

The religious procession began from Nanded and passed through Hubli-Dharwad, Bangalore, and Hyderabad before reaching Bidar. The yatra was received by members and leaders of the Sikh community at Shahapur gate on the outskirts of the city on Friday night.

Halt

After a halt at Guru Nanak Jhira premises for the night, the yatra left the premises on Saturday and passed through Madiwala Chowk, Mohan Market, Bhagat Singh Chowk, Basaveshwara Chowk and Ambedkar Chowk before culminating at Gurudwara Mata Bhagoji at Janawada village.

The yatra was led by Guru Nank Jhira Foundation president Balbir Singh, manager of the foundation Darbara Singh, member Manpreet Singh, and leaders Tejpal Singh and Satpal Singh.

Sikh leaders from Nanded had arrived in the city.

Along the yatra route, devotees showered flower petals on the yatra carrying Guru Granth Saheb. “Bhajans” and “Keertans” were held along the route.

Speaking to The Hindu here on Saturday, Mr. Singh said, “Guru Granthji is our body and the knowledge in our soul. Those who wish to meet the Almighty must understand and follow Guru Granthji.” He said the objective of taking out the procession was to spread the message that “ The Almighty is one.”

The procession was carried out peacefully, and the community members participated in good numbers despite rains in the city.

Mr. Singh said the yatra would return to Nanded passing through Aurad and Degloor road in the district.
