BELLARY: G. Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism and Infrastructure Development, on Saturday instructed officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, to take steps to curb illegal mining in Bellary district. Mr. Reddy, who is also the district in-charge Minister, was addressing a meeting of officials at his office here. Officials from the departments of forests, and mines and geology; assistant commissioners of Hospet and Bellary; and the Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner attended the meeting. Later, speaking to presspersons, Mr. Reddy said that illegal mining had become rampant in the district, especially in “patta” land. He said nearly 400 groups were involved in mining in “patta” land in Hospet, Sandur and other taluks of the district.
