KOCHI: The Kerala Catholic Bishops’ Council (KCBC) has said that a workbook prepared by the Education Committee of the council would be taught in all Catholic schools in the State. This decision was conveyed here on Saturday in a press release after the council met at Mount St. Thomas, near here, on Friday. The Bishops’ council also decided to continue the protest against the Class VII Social Science textbook, said the press release. As part of the continuing protest, August 15 will be observed as ‘Day of protection of the faith.’ Special textbooks will be introduced in Sunday classes to emphasise the need for children to grow in faith and the dangers of godlessness. There will be special prayers during Sunday Mass in all Catholic churches in the State to save society from godlessness and for society to uphold moral values. The Bishops’ council criticised a decision by the government to reduce the percentage of reservation for Latin Catholics in degree and post-graduate courses in government arts and sciences colleges. Educational institutions run by the Catholic Church was offering four per cent reservation to Latin Catholics, claimed the press release. Bishop of the Kothamangalam Diocese George Punnakkottil was appointed chairman of the Bible Commission of the Council. A common pastoral letter will be read out during the Mass on October 5 in connection with the raising of conferring of Sainthood on Sr. Alphonsa.
