Chairperson posts have been vacant since March 31 Appointments to corporations, boards get priority Bangalore: The appointment of chairpersons of 11 cultural academies is likely to be delayed further. The posts have been vacant since March 31. The Government is reported to have returned the list of prospective chairpersons forwarded by the Directorate of Kannada and Culture owing to “procedural lapses”, according to sources. Director of Kannada and Culture Manu Baligar prepared the list with the help of two officials. But some specific points in the bylaws, such as the overall number of members in each academy, were overlooked, sources said. However, the Government is said to be buying time to finalise the list based on inputs from various agencies and individuals said to be close to the Bharatiya Janata Party. PressureChief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa is said to be under pressure from a section of influential party workers, some religious institutions and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh lobby, who are keen on having their nominees appointed. With the Government giving priority to the appointment of chairpersons of various boards and corporations, it will turn its attention to the constitution of the academies only after that exercise is over. Mr. Yeddyurappa is likely look into the appointments to the academies only after returning from the world Kannada conference in the U.S, which begins on August 29, sources said.
