Reservoirs receive copious inflows

Staff Reporter

Hyderabad: The heavy downpour might have thrown life out of gear, but the Hyderabadis can heave a sigh of relief. The water crisis facing the City appears to have blown over. Osman Sagar and Himayatsagar, the principle source of water to the State Capital, have received copious inflows. The dried up Osman Sagar has received 5 feet of water and Himayatsagar one and half feet during the last 24 hours.

“The inflows are continuing and the level might go up further”, said B. Sridhar, executive director, HMWSSB.

The water level in Osmansagar touched 1759.700 feet on Saturday as against 1755.850 the previous day while in Himayathsagar it was 1732.500 feet against 1730.250 on Friday. Singur also recorded inflows of 0.397 TMC and Manjira 0.135 TMC.

In view of the heavy rains, the Board opened an emergency control room at its office in Ameerpet. It can be contacted round the clock on phone 9948080129.

The control room will monitor the water supply and sewerage problems particularly in low lying areas and along trunk sewer manholes to avoid mishaps.

The Board pressed into service emergency rescue teams which will work in coordination with the control room.
