Proposal, project report to be sent for government approval Discussions with Animal Husbandry Department likely to check stray dog menace PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Municipality on Wednesday decided to recommend the implementation of improvement works at Anna Thidal to the government. A resolution to this effect was adopted at the 17th council meeting of the municipality. Around 70 resolutions, including approvals for road projects, repair works to toilets, erection of roadside parks and other civic works, were adopted during the meeting. In the last council meeting, the municipality had planned to develop Anna Thidal into a modern sports complex with funds from an organisation based in Spain. Citing delay in implementing the project, councillors of various parties raised slogans during the council meeting. Anna Thidal was house to several anti-social activities, they said. Municipal Commissioner N. Sumathi said the proposal, along with the project report, would be sent for government approval. Councillors committeeA committee consisting of the councillors would be formed to inspect the works at the municipal workshop. The decision came after the councillors opposed the high expenditure towards repairs of municipal vehicles.The Commissioner assured to audit the functioning of the workshop and study the efficiency of work. The workshop consisted of 73 workers including drivers, cleaners and mechanics. As regards the increasing stray dog menace, the council agreed to hold discussions with the Animal Husbandry Department and chalk out a solution. For collecting pending tax amount, the municipality had decided to issue notifications to the defaulters through advertisements, the Commissioner said. Meanwhile, the council also decided to request the government to waive electricity charges of the municipality. Among other demands, the councillors put forward were the need to start the repair works at Muthialpet market, proper distribution of fogging machines and insecticide for mosquito control and regular meeting of committees. Municipal Chairperson B. Sridevi said the restoration works of the municipal building would be done in a phased manner. Councillors of the AIADMK staged a walk out protesting the absence of officials and for holding the council meeting once in three months and not every month.
