Steady show by Mathias

Bangalore: Red Rooster Racing’s Vikram Mathias is nicely poised to make a back-to-back double in the Indian National Rally Championship after his steady show on the second day of the K-1000 motor rally. After his win at Mysore, Vikram Mathias (co-driver PVS Murthy) grabbed the lead in the K-1000 on the first day and clung on to the lead over his team-mate Amitrajit Ghosh (Ashwin Naik) on the completion of the special stages at Siddalghata on Saturday.

Vikram, who lead by 29 seconds on the first day, amplified the lead to 1 minute and 51 seconds. With only the Super Special Stage to be completed on Sunday, Vikram only needs to complete the Super Special Stage to take home the trophy.

Day two of the Rally saw Vikram eschewing any fancy driving and cautiousness was the watchword. With the stages being wet and slippery the Red Rooster driver aimed for a finish to the second day’s stages.

Team MRF’s Gaurav Singh Gill clipped off a couple of minutes from Vikram’s lead and moved into third place but has no real chance of staging an upset.
