Bangalore: On the eve of Independence Day, the Ministry for Information and Broadcasting has organised a five-day photography exhibition at the Venkatappa Art Gallery, Kasturba Road, which was inaugurated by Minister for IT-BT, BWSSB and Information, Katta Subramanya Naidu, earlier in the week. The theme is the “Spirit of Independent India”.

Promotion

The Minister, in his inaugural speech, requested the people to take up photography as a profession or a hobby.

Showcased at the exhibition are award-winning photographs in colour and black-and-white from all over the country.

Other photographs specially chosen for the exhibition were also added taking the total tally to 109 photos at the gallery.

Debatosh Sengupta, Director of Photo Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said they had received around 1,157 photographs (225 black-and-white and 932 colour) from 294 photographers across India, which were whittled down to 109 for the show. technicolour

First show

The exhibition was initially showcased in New Delhi and prizes were awarded to the winners. From then on, it has travelled to cities like Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Indore, Kolkata, Bhopal, Lucknow and now Bangalore, marking the end of its journey. Mr. Sengupta also added that the main aim of the show was to encourage photography in the country. It was a conscious decision to promote what is now a dying art and it was also the reason for him to choose Bangalore for the last phase.

This was because the city once had some of the best photographers in the country.

The exhibition is open from 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. till August 11.
