CHENNAI: Children of Corporation schools across the city gathered at the Nungambakkam Corporation School on Saturday to showcase their skills in essay writing, elocution, poetry and drawing.
The competitions were organised for students of Std.VII-XII by the Corporation and Innovative Network for School Evolution (INFORSE), a voluntary organisation. About 400 children took part in each contest.
N. Manikandan, a Std. XII student of the Corporation school at Choolaimedu, said the topics for each contest was given to the students a week earlier. “We had time to think and discuss what we wanted to write or say. Our G.K. [general knowledge] has improved,” he said.
The topics included the importance of sanitation facilities for students, the role of libraries in intellectual development and the evils of alcohol. The students also had an opportunity to interact with their counterparts from other Corporation schools. Shailaja and Indra, of the Corporation School in Korukkupet, said they enjoyed such inter-school meets.
