BERHAMPUR: One person died and another went missing when a minibus was swept away by an over flowing mountain stream near Kumudabali village in Rayagada district on Saturday. The minibus was travelling from Muniguda to Jagdalpur. The driver of the minibus dared to cross over the stream which was over flowing on the vented causeway on the road near the village. But the vehicle lost control due to the high velocity of the stream. It over turned and was washed away to a distance. Most of the 22 passengers in the mini bus could be saved except an Anganwadi worker Urmila Gouda and another woman, Padmini Vibhas. The body of Urmila could be recovered but Padmini was missing. It may be noted that in a similar incident a passenger bus as swept away by the overflowing stream named Chhatisgarh Nala at a distance of 14 kilometers from Rayagada town on Friday. The bus had tried to cross the bridge on which the stream was over flowing. Luckily all passengers had got down from the bus when the mishap occurred. Large number of mountain streams makes the roads in Rayagada district too dangerous during the monsoons. On Friday the over flowing of mountain streams snapped the road communication link of the district headquarter town, Rayagada with Koraput, Andhra Pradesh and Kalahandi. Only the road to Gajapati district was free from the wrath of mountain streams.
