Thiruvananthapuram
Piety meets beauty: An artist gives final touches to idols for the Ganeshotsavam festival in the city. Thiruvananthapuram: Hundreds of idols of Hindu gods and goddesses are being readied at makeshift workshops at different places in the district as part of the Ganeshotsavam to be held in September. In one of the workshops at Chakka, it is a riot of colours as artisans from Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan join hands with their counterparts here to give finishing touches to life-like idols. The workshop is crammed with dozens of idols in sizes ranging from three feet to 25 feet. Frenetic activity is on at the workshops in Attingal, Neyyatinkara, Nedumangad and the Fort area too. The annual festival is organised by the Ganeshotsavam Trust and the Siva Sena. Apart from Thiruvananthapuram, the idols are being manufactured at 26 other places in the State spread over Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.
