‘Leaders must call on President, Prime Minister’ 177-day agitation cannot be ignored: council Thiruvananthapuram: The action council for the establishment of a High Court Bench in the State capital has urged leaders of political parties across the spectrum to put aside their differences and join hands to get the long- standing demand conceded by the Union government. A press note quoting the action council treasurer Ranjith C. Nair here on Saturday urged Law Minister M. Vijayakumar to send an all-party delegation to the Centre to press the demand. AssuranceIt said the Bar Association had called off its boycott of courts following an assurance that leaders of the ruling and Opposition fronts would call on the President, Prime Minister, Union Law Minister and the Supreme Court Chief Justice to highlight the demand. “Now that Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony has also pledged his support, an all-party delegation will serve the purpose. They should try to enlist the support of other Union ministers from Kerala also,” the press note said. “The people will lose faith in democracy if the long- pending demand is allowed to drag on further, even after the decision by the Assembly and State Cabinet and the support of the ruling and Opposition parties. It is upto the State government to shackle the forces working against the demand. The 177- day- long agitation by the Bar Association cannot be ignored,” it said.
