Demonstration against ordinance
Special Correspondent
THANJAVUR: Members of People Healthcare Development Organisation staged a demonstration here appealing to the Government to withdraw the ordinance issued by it stating that those who attack doctors and damage hospitals will be imprisoned from three to 10 years.
They said that it was against people and in favour of doctors who do private practice though they work in government hospitals and colleges. Government should bring a legislation banning private practice by doctors if it is really interested in the welfare of the people.
The existing laws are enough to protect doctors. Some doctors squeeze the patients insisting them to undergo tests and use drugs from those companies that give them commission.
K. Gajendran, General Secretary of the Organisation led the agitation. C. Chandrakumar, District Secretary of AITUC, R. Thirugnanam, District Secretary of CPI, P. Senthil Kumar, Town Secretary of CPI(M) and Mathivanan of Government State Transport Corporation participated in the agitation.
