“Wireless connectivity can bridge digital divide”
Staff Reporter
MADURAI: Wireless connectivity can help bridge the digital divide in the country by providing Internet and voice services in remote rural locations, according to Reliance Communications (RCom).
A flagship company of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, it will complete its ‘Win’ project for rolling out mobile telephony in rural India this month, Ajay Awasthi, Chief Executive Officer, RCom, (Tamil Nadu), said here on Friday. The project began last September.
Addressing a press conference, he said that in the Madurai cluster of the company, which comprises six rural districts, 2,365 villages would be covered under this rollout.
“In this cluster alone, 86 per cent of the villages having 88 to 90 per cent of the population would have access to wireless connectivity,” he said.
