Haryana to distribute hybrid seeds
Chandigarh: The Haryana State Agriculture Department has decided to distribute 8,050 mini-kits of hybrid varieties of seeds of pulses and oilseeds to farmers under the Integrated Scheme of Oilseeds, Pulses, Oil Palm and Maize (ISOPOM) during Kharif-2008 to encourage them to cultivate these crops.
Announcing this here on Saturday, a spokesman of the State Agriculture Department said the ISOPOM scheme had been implemented in all districts of Haryana to give impetus to cultivation of oilseeds and pulses.
He said under this scheme farmers are provided high quality certified seeds at subsidised rates. Subsidy is also given to them for setting up block demonstration plots and mixed crop demonstration plots on their farms so as to impart practical training on the hybrid variety and latest technology as developed by the scientists, he said.
He said the area and the production of oilseeds and pulses were not increasing in the country as expected whereas the demand for these crops was on the rise. As a result, the prices of these crops are rising with each passing day and the country has to import the stuff in large quantities. -- PTI
