Implementation of State schemes to be discussed It will facilitate coordination among departments MADURAI: Fifteen District Collectors would attend a one-day workshop on “System of Rice (SRI) and National Agricultural Development Programmes (NADP)” here on Monday, to be inaugurated by Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam. In an effort to reach out to the farmers effectively and to bridge the gap between the targets and actual plans, the State Agriculture Department had initiated coordination among all department officials to move towards one direction, said Tamil Nadu Agriculture Secretary Surjith K.Chaudhary here on Sunday. The purpose of the workshop was to sensitise Collectors and officials for effective implementation of the SRI and NADP. Moreover, to double the agricultural production of Tamil Nadu during the XI Five Year Plan period and to enhance rice productivity, such interaction would come in handy, he said. Though more than 50 per cent of the workforce of the country still depended on agriculture for its livelihood, it is yet to be reflected in the GDP of the country. Collectors of Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Pudukottai, Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur and Cuddalore districts would attend the workshop. It will also facilitate preparation of district action plan and implementation of other agriculture development programmes. The workshop will be held at the Agricultural College and Research Institute campus.
