CHANDIGARH: Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai has suspended all the nine members of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) including its Chairman chairman M.S. Saini after President Pratibha Patil accepted a presidential reference by the Bhupinder Singh Hooda Government seeking removal of the Commission which was appointed by the erstwhile Indian National Lok Dal Government. It may be recalled that the Congress Government had made a presidential reference after coming to power in 2005 seeking the removal of the Commission on the basis of “complaints” that it had “indulged in manipulations while making key appointments”. Interestingly, the State Government had virtually withdrawn all recruitment work from the Commission. Official sources said that the Commission will remain suspended till the Supreme Court pronounces its verdict in a case filed by the Haryana Government against the Commission on the plea that it had “manipulated some of the appointments.” They added that the Government was likely to fill the nine vacancies shortly by appointing an Acting Chairman and other members. Recently, the State Cabinet approved a proposal to increase the present strength of the Commission from nine to thirteen.
