Over 1 million register in employment exchanges

KANCHEEPURAM: The total number of registrations in employment exchanges in the State has crossed one million this year, according to the Commissioner, Employment and Training, A.S. Jeevarathinam.

Inaugurating a career guidance exhibition-cum-seminar programme at Pachaiappan Women College here on Thursday, the Commissioner said that while 9 lakh youngsters registered their names with the employment exchanges last year, the number shot up to 11 lakhs this year. A total of 2.81 lakh persons had been absorbed in various government departments during the last two years. In addition, around 3,000 persons had been given placement in private companies.

Mr. Jeevarathinam handed over selection certificates to 92 girls identified for in-house training for employment at Nokia Limited, Sriperumbudur.
