Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram Jilla Upabhokthru Samithi has urged the State government to take stringent measures to check unethical and illegal trade practices during the Onam festival season. The executive committee of the samithi which met here recently said illegal business practices were rampant during the festival season. Inferior products“Traders from outside the State flood the local markets with low-cost products of inferior quality, leaving local traders at a disadvantage. The migrant businessmen generate profits running into crores of rupees.” The samithi said the same situation would continue this year also, unless the government stepped in with safeguards to prevent consumers from being fleeced. Samithi vice-president K.N. Krishnan Nair presided over the meeting. General secretary D. Venugopal was also present.
