Twin trouble, again

Kabadi Kabadi

‘Kabadi Kabadi,’ directed by Sudheer Manu, fails to impress because of its thin and repetitive storyline.

The film, scripted by Shani Khadar, is about two foster brothers, Vijayan (Mukesh) and Madhavankutty (Kalabhavan Mani), who are always at each other’s neck. Both would like to take after their father and become police officers in the same village. Every year, a kabadi tournament is held in the village in memory of their father. Madhavankutty has won it twice and is all set for a hat-trick. Vijayan, however, wants to stall it.

Meanwhile, both the brothers get postings as inspectors in different villages. This, together with the arrival of a close relative — a judge with his twin daughters, only aggravates their enmity. Vijayan and Madhavankutty try to woo the twins, Pooja and Sneha (Rambha in double role) thinking they are after the same girl. The rest of the story revolves around how they wriggle out of the unpleasant situation.

The portrayal of the characters and the situations, though funny, is insipid. Though Mukesh and Kalabhavan Mani, and of course Suraj Venjaramood, Harisree Asokan and Jaffer Idukki are manageable, Rambha’s acting skills are not exploited fully. The director’s attempt to infuse a certain element of suspense towards the end does not pay off well. The cast also includes Indrans, Bheeman Reghu and Mani C. Kappan. On the technical side, Nadirshah scores the music and Sudhi wields the camera. ‘Kabadi Kabadi’ has been produced under the banner of Souparnika Productions.
