Keep ground clean

One is delighted that the Putharikandam Maidan is going to get a facelift. It has been a long-pending demand of the people of the city. But the renovation alone is not enough, and the ground should be kept neat and tidy. Sufficient number of seats should be provided so that the walkers can relax after their constitutional. To meet the expenses of maintaining cleanliness, a user fee can be charged. I wish that the renovation is commenced without delay and completed at the earliest. As open areas are shrinking in the city, the administration should take steps to maintain such grounds in perfect condition.

Open library on holidays

The State Central Library (public library) is closed on Sundays and other holidays. This is unfair for a cultural centre such as the library. The dailies and periodicals in the library should be made available to the readers on holidays, and for this, at least the reading room should be kept open.

Hope the authorities may do the needful.

Tackling power shortage

The power lines are not frequently inspected and maintained, and hence, much electricity is lost in transmission. A remedy to this should be found on a war footing.

The long-term options for Kerala to overcome the shortage of electricity is setting up many small hydroelectric projects and wind units and expanding the capacity of the existing hydroelectric and thermal projects. Theft of electricity should be checked.
