Kakinada: Rotary International has resolved to supply Rs. 8,000 crore worth polio vaccine to different countries to help curb the disease in view of its possibility of afflicting vulnerable children in spite of the immunization camps conducted regularly. The polio case detected in Kakinada recently was an indication of resilience of polio virus and Rotary was contributing its mite to control the pandemic, said Rotary Governor (Vijayawada) M.V Prasad. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Prasad said Rotary was striving to completely eradicate polio virus from the world by 2010 in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and reputed NGOs across the globe. Rotary is extending financial and logistical support to those fighting against the polio virus. Priority
Mr. Prasad said priority was given to women and child development in view of their vulnerability to social evils and increasing atrocities perpetrated on them around the world, especially in the developing countries. Free medical services were being rendered and awareness created about various diseases that reduce the quality of lives. For instance, due emphasis was laid on HIV/AIDS which assumed alarming proportions. Rotary Club Kakinada Golden Jubilee president Ch.V.Surya Rao and secretary Sanjay Gupta were among those present.
