New Delhi: Trucks on Delhi roads seem to be racing ahead of the Blueline fleet for the infamous ‘killer’ tag with its involvement in as many as 263 fatal accidents this year, prompting police to warn its operators to rein in drivers or face the music. The strict enforcement drive, training programme and increased deployment of policemen to check traffic violations, the number of fatal accidents involving trucks did not come down and remained almost identical to the figure for the same period last year. Blueline toll downHowever, the involvement of blueline buses which had earned public ire for spilling blood on Delhi roads last year has decreased by a whopping 38 per cent this year as against the same period last year. A sort of warning to truck operators to ensure that drivers ‘behave’ on roads came from Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal during a meeting he had with truck operators here. “Trucks have continued to wreck havoc and resulted in the deaths of so many people. The Commissioner held this meeting with an intention to make the Capital’s roads safer,” Joint Commissioner (Traffic) S N Srivastava said. In the meeting, Dadwal told the operators that the offenders will face strict action if they violate traffic rules. -- PTI
